Angler shatters british record for Wels Catfish

Shaun Ing has landed a colossal Wels catfish, weighing in at a staggering 150lb 3oz, setting a new British record.

Shaun Ing has landed a colossal Wels catfish, weighing in at a staggering 150lb 3oz, setting a new British record. The monumental catch occurred on September 28, 2024, at Chigborough Farm and Fisheries in Maldon, Essex.

The British Record (rod-caught) Fish Committee (BRFC) meticulously reviewed Mr. Ing’s claim, including the official paperwork and photographic evidence. They have now officially accepted the claim, recognising the fish as the new British record for Wels catfish (Silurus glanis).

Chigborough Farm and Fisheries, the site of this record-breaking catch, is a popular angling destination known for its well-stocked lakes, huge catfish and carp up to 40lb. The BRFC congratulated Mr. Ing on his remarkable achievement. They also used the opportunity to remind anglers of the correct procedure for reporting potential record catches.
