Fishing venues in Berkshire

Berkshire’s incredibly varied venues offer some of the best river and stillwater fishing in the country.

The River Thames to the north of Berkshire

Located west of London and bordered by Hampshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire, most of Berkshire is within a short drive of the River Thames which flows through the north east of the county and is popular with anglers and boaters alike. One of the nice things about the River Thames is that there are plenty of stretches where you don’t have to pay for a day ticket or permit although you must have a valid Environment Agency rod licence.

The Kennet and Avon Canal to the south

Another major feature is the Kennet and Avon Canal which runs across the south of Berkshire, through Hungerford and Newbury before joining the Thames at Reading. Other main centres of population include Lambourn in the west and Maidenhead, Bracknell, Windsor and Slough to the east.

Berkshire offers some of the best fishing in the country

With a variety of day ticket and club venues, the county has some of the best coarse and game fishing venues in the country. For the river angler, in addition to the River Thames are the‎ Blackwater, Loddon, Kennet, Lambourn and Colne which offer fishing for wild trout and grayling whilst for the stillwater angler there are a host of day ticket and season ticket fisheries which offer everything from specimen carp and catfish angling to fishing for tench, perch, bream and other silver fish on some of the country’s best known angling venues.

A wealth of angling clubs in Berkshire

In addition to the many commercial coarse fisheries and stretches of river there are also a great many angling clubs in Berkshire which offer a variety of angling. Although some require annual membership, others offer day ticket fishing on the waters they control.

Berkshire is also great for angling holidays

In addition to its day ticket river and commercial coarse fisheries, Berkshire is also a great place for an angling holiday with many venues offering both accommodation and camping which enables families to enjoy a short or longer stay break which combines outings to nearby tourist venues like Windsor with a spot of fishing.

Local tackle dealers know where’s fishing well

In addition to searching the Internet to find venues you think will suit you best it is also always worth visiting local tackle shops who generally have detailed knowledge of where’s fishing well and which are the best baits and techniques to use.
