An abundance of coarse fisheries

As a county, Bedfordshire offers an abundance of coarse fisheries including day ticket, club and syndicate waters. These vary from small intimate pools to large open lakes that hold specimen carp and predator fish like pike.

Popular Bedfordshire rivers – The Great Ouse, Ivel and Ouzel

In addition, those who like to fish moving water can fish an abundance of rivers, many of which have stretched where the fishing is free. River anglers are well catered for with some stretches of rivers offering free fishing for chub, barbel and pike. The River Great Ouse is one of the more popular waters in Bedfordshire for match and pleasure angling offering good catches of bream and roach as well as decent sized river carp. Other rivers of note include the River Ivel and the Ouzel.

Fishing with accommodation or camping

For those visiting Bedfordshire from other parts of the country there’s plenty of old gravel, clay and sand pits which hold good sized fish whilst many of the commercial coarse fisheries offer day-ticket or longer stay angling as well as accommodation or camping. The commercial fisheries generally have well stocked lakes with fishing for specimen sized carp and catfish in tranquil, scenic surroundings with an abundance of wildlife.

Angling Clubs in Bedfordshire

There are several large angling clubs in the county which offer a range of fishing on lakes, rivers and canals. These include the Luton Angling Club, Vauxhall Angling Club, Shefford and District AA, Biggleswade and Hitchin AA and the Blunham AC.

Bedfordshire also has plenty of tackle shops

In addition to the many tackle shops in the local towns, an increasing number of commercial coarse fisheries also have their own on-site tackle shops at their venues where up to the minute help and advice can be obtained on which lakes are fishing best and what techniques and baits are likely to produce the best result.
