Introduction to the Fishery

Now in its 30th year, Taswood Lakes is a cornerstone of the Norfolk angling scene. Set within the picturesque Tas Valley, the complex has matured into a tranquil haven surrounded by established trees and lush greenery. Originally established as a fish farm, the venue now offers a diverse range of sport across 11 distinct waters. Its reputation is built on providing “something for everyone”, from the dedicated specimen hunter chasing 40lb giants on Broadwing to the pleasure angler looking for a 100lb+ bag of tench and silver fish. The atmosphere is quiet and professional, managed by a dedicated team of bailiffs who ensure the environment remains as pristine as the fish themselves.

The Lakes, Features & Pegs

The complex is split between specialist carp waters and mixed coarse lakes. Broadwing and Heron are the jewels for specimen hunters, featuring deep margins, overhanging willows, and lily pads that provide natural patrol routes. Spring serves as a popular “runs water,” heavily stocked with fish to 20lb+. Swims are well-spaced and mostly gravel or timber-platformed, ensuring comfort even in wet weather. Many lakes, like Osprey and Lapwing, feature central islands and reed-fringed bays, offering classic “target” fishing at short to medium range.

What You Can Catch

  • Carp: Common and Mirror Carp to 42lb+, Ghost Carp to 41lb+, and Grass Carp to 30lb+.
  • Coarse: Tench to 8lb+, specimen Bream, Chub, Roach, and Rudd.
  • Predator: Pike are a popular winter target in the carp waters, frequently reaching double figures.

Proven Tactics & Recommended Baits

On the carp lakes, a high-quality boilie approach (specifically Parker Baits or the shop-stocked KC Baits) remains the most consistent producer. Fishing “to the far margin” or tight against lily beds on Heron and Broadwing often yields the biggest residents. For the coarse lakes, the Method Feeder with 6mm pellets or a standard cage feeder with groundbait and red maggots is lethal for the Bream and Tench. In the warmer months, surface fishing with dog biscuits or bread on Grove and Spring provides exciting visual sport.

Top Tips for Success

The fish at Taswood respond heavily to wind direction; on the larger carp lakes, they often migrate to the windward bank during a warm south-westerly. If you aren’t seeing signs of fish, don’t be afraid to move swims, many regulars find that “moving for one” is the key to a multiple-fish haul. Also, utilise the on-site maggot machine for fresh bait during evening sessions.
