Comments from owner
The Mill Pool at Sandy has some of the very best fishing on the River Ivel. The weir and the two rivers combining provide a wide variety of flows, with shallow races, deep gravel runs and steady glides meaning all river species have conditions to suit them. Chub, barbel, roach and dace are the main quarry with some very good pike and especially perch for predator anglers. There are a number of river carp which provide the odd surprise from time to time.
Permits to fish the far side are available free to residents from Sandy Town Council giving access to about 3/4 mile of river. Known fish from this stretch include barbel to low doubles, carp to 19lbs, chub to 7-1, and pike to 28-8. Three pound perch are quite frequent and the resident bream shoal appear on occasions with 50lb bags possible and individual fish up to 8lbs. Roach and dace are there in numbers but not to any great size, although roach over a pound have been taken. Famous anglers to have fished in our garden include Bob Church MBE, Matt Hayes, and Martin Bowler.
