With every facility for families, anglers and children, it's easy to see why so many return year after year. In addition to being spolied for angling on your doorstep, White Acres also makes an excellent venue for exploring Cornwall, being only 10 minutes from a coastline fringed with mile upon mile of glorious beaches and coves.

When it comes to fishing, White Acres has already earned an enviable reputation as being one of the best British match fishing venues. The angling Press has featured anglers winning £25,000 in one-off finals with the very biggest names in UK match angling fighting out the Spring and Autumn festivals.
What sometimes gets overlooked, however, is that White Acres is primarily and very importantly a superb venue for the pleasure angler.
With its new match complex now fully operational, White Acres can now offer more swims and guaranteed better sport for the angler and members of his family who just want to fish for fun.
Outside the festival season it is White Acres' intention to peg all contests on the new lakes, which have been specifically designed for match fishing. This will leave the more established lakes on the site for pleasure anglers.
Pollawynn (right) has regularly been used for competitions and produced excellent sport. With the match fishing pressure lifted, it is now expected to provide arm-aching action, not that the fishery is simply all big carp.
Whilst they are there, and in numbers, Pollawynn also offers great roach sport from virtually every swim. Feed casters or maggots little and often and fish closer in, no need
to fish more than five or six yards out, with rod or pole and big bags of 'silver fish' are on the cards. Expect plenty of bream, some tench and the odd very big perch too. Don't forget your worms.
Python (left) is more dedicated to tench with fish to over 6lbs as well as bream. There are also some wonderful crucian carp and 'brown goldfish' plus plenty of 'pasties', carp to 2lb which are aptly named after the famous Cornish delicacy.
Again shoals of roach and rudd provide hectic action for anglers fishing close in with less
substantial tackle than demanded by the Pollawynn carp. Under the banskide vegetation is the place to try for roach to 1lb+ and some 'surprises'... there are some big perch in Python.
Eery was the first lake constructed at White Acres and this wonderful mature fishery holds some serious carp, including some lovely ghost carp.
As with most carp waters, using floating baits or simply fishing the margins with luncheon meat over a few carp pellets is usually all you need to bag up. Indeed, a couple of hours is often all it takes to give you all the rod-bending action you need!
Much the same applies to Sycamore (left). The fish here love floaters, dog mixers being their usual favourite, or floating carp pellets. Look to fish close to the extensive reed beds or island for superb quality carp well into double figures.
My own favourite for a day's sheer angling escapism is Jennys Pool (below right). Your float, if that is your chosen method, will not be still for long as there are huge numbers of roach and rudd to good sizes plus thousands of tench which range from ounces to B-I-G.
Another feature of Jennys Pool is that there are lots of crucians and brown goldfish together with some of the most handsome ghost carp you will ever lay eyes on... if you can beat them that is, a 20lber is a near-certainty in 2003.
Float fishing with a waggler, the pole or feeder, all score well on Jennys and never ever ignore the margins, particularly towards the evening. Scatter some bait very close in while you are fishing and keep your eye on the water. When you see 'tail patterns' or the water muddies up, drop a bait in...and hang on tight, because that is where the biggest carp like to feed.
On days when there are no competitions the new lakes are of course open to any residents and super sport can be had there too. With heavy stocking of 'match-sized' fish you are sure to get loads of bites.
The changes at White Acres have ensured the venue will maintain its reputation as not only one of the UK's best match fishing venues but also a leading angling holiday destination, whatever the aims or experience of angling visitors.
And when you are away from home on an angling holiday either with your family, with friends or simply on your own for a short break, what better way to end the day than watching the sun go down and waiting for that last bite!
