When Des Taylor goes for a couple of day's fishing on the river he's not one for staying in luxury hotels or quaint country inns with crackling log fires - the back of his Volvo estate with a brew of tea and a cigarette is more up his street.
His approach to river fishing is much the same. No time for mucking about - just bait up and get stuck in. A few fish from each swim then move pegs and change tactics to catch a different species.
The nice thing about this video is that it's as pacey and fast moving as the stretch of the River Kennet below the weir he is fishing. After having showed how to use boilies on a hair rig for barbel and chub, Des has a crack at lure fishing for pike before moving to a quiet backwater where he uses the simplest of rigs to catch some nice chub on bread. Then it's off to float-fish worms for perch on another peg. Whilst doing this he gives one of many useful tips - always throw any dead worms out of your bait tin. Keep a dead worm in your bait tin and the rest will die.
After catching a lovely Rainbow Trout as a bonus, Des tries spinning for pike before moving swims again for more chub and barbel.
Incidentally, the advert at the end of the tape for Kevin Maddocks' carp rods gives an interesting insight into how they are made.
