Chameleon Books have served up this colourful selection of sometimes amusing photographs, anecdotes and tales from the riverbank.

Like, have you heard the one about the angler who landed a lantern and, whilst drying it there was a sudden puff of smoke and a Genie appeared. He had a new piece of fishing tackle with his first wish, a new boat for his second and for this third he asked to be able to live a long life and be able to fish every minute of it. The result? - he turned into a Great Blue Heron.

Ok, ok, so how about the tale of the guy who had an awful day fishing and on his way home he called in the supermarket and asked for two fresh trout. He told the salesman to pick two large ones and to throw them at him. When asked why he wanted them thrown at him the angler replied: "So I can tell my wife I caught them!". The salesman said he understood, but added that the angler ought to buy a salmon instead... because his wife had already been into the supermarket and had told him to say that she would prefer salmon.

All in all there's 112 pages of photos, jokes and information and at just under eight squid it'll give you something to read whilst the turkey goes down.

"Hook, Line & Stinker" is available from WH Smith, Dillons, Waterstones... and, as they say, "all good High Street stores".
