With a cover which looks more suited to a recipe book or an advert for a sweet shop, 'The Beekay Guide to Carp Baits' is the culmination of Ken Towney's almost fanatical interest in the subject since the early 1980s - and amply illustrates just how much things have changed since the early days of 'serious' carp fishing.
Suitable for the beginner and expert alike, this surely represents the nearest you can get to a complete guide to modern carp baits, exploring as it does everything from natural baits to the more hi-tech High Protein HNV baits, fishmeals and even birdfoods.
However, judging by the photographs, one thing is for sure - Ken's techniques certainly do the trick and have produced result most carp anglers would die for.
Chapters cover an Introduction to Carp Baits, a Beginners Guide to Carp Baits, flavours and other attractors, nutrition and attraction, natural baits, sweetners and colours, proprietary base mixes, fishmeals, birdfoods, high protein HNV baits, boilie crumb and boilie soup, pellets and ball pellets, particles and a summary of bait ingredients.
There is also a Bait Companies Guest Chapter which includes contributions from Alan Taylor of Whacker Catcher Products, Bryan Jarrett of Hinders, Dave Poxon of Essex Bait Services, Bill Cottom of Nutrabaits and Kevin Maddocks of Beekay.
Running to 160 pages and with more than 50 photographs and 16 pages of colour, 'The Beekay Guide to Carp Baits' costs £9.99 from most good tackle shops or direct from Beekay International, adding £2.00 to cover postage and packing.
