Low cost treatment to prevent algae build up
"As soon as we put Dyofix in the lakes the fish started taking straight away. The fish feed more confidently because they can't see the anglers and we are loosing fewer to cormorants because they can't see the fish. Half the secret is catching things early in the year before the algae starts building up." - Mike Mason, Woodland View Fishery, Droitwich
Warm summer weather with plenty of sunshine may be great fishing weather for anglers to enjoy - but it can spell disaster for fishery owners as oxygen levels drop to dangerously low levels and fish struggle to survive.
Sunlight, algae's prominent food source, is made up from a number of colours - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet - the colours of the rainbow. It is the blue, violet and indigo elements that supply the algae with food and cause problems.
To overcome the problem an increasing number of local councils, golf clubs, stately homes, fishery owners and those with large lakes are finding that the answer to algal growth problems lies in DyoFix Pond Blue, a propriety blend of dyes that once mixed into the water acts as a barrier by reflecting harmful colours away from the surface while at the same time allowing the other parts of light into the pond.
DyoFix Pond Blue may look pretty alarming when first introduced into a water but is a safe, non-toxic product which is economical to use and which is supplied in 250 gram, water soluble, sachets that are easily thrown into the middle of the pond or lake. As an example, a two-metre deep pond measuring 50 metres by 50 metres contains five million litres of water but requires only two sachets of DyoFix Pond Blue.
The initial dose should last two to three months, depending on the amount of sunlight and rainfall, and the pond can be 'topped up' with lower weights as required. A minimum pond depth of two feet is required for the best results.
DyoFix Pond Blue is also available in two strengths in liquid form, one for use in smaller domestic ponds and a concentrated version for ponds of over 1,000,000 litres.
The benefits of DyoFix Pond Blue have already been discovered by Mike Mason who runs the eight-lake Woodland View Fishery near Drotiwich in the Midlands, one of the most successful commercial coarse fisheries in the UK.
Mike said: "The dye is totally harmless and inexpensive. One of my lakes, which is about an acre in size, costs around £20 to treat, so even small fisheries can afford to safeguard their stocks."
